Pernod Ricard USA introduces new spirit, Malibu Island Spiced

DBR Staff Writer Published 17 April 2013

Pernod Ricard USA, the premium spirits and wine arm and subsidiary of France-based Pernod Ricard SA, has introduced a new spirit, Malibu Island Spiced, which is infused with Truvia stevia leaf extract.

Malibu Island Spiced is a blend of Caribbean rum, coconut liqueur and Truvia stevia sweetener. The stevia sweetener gives the rum a light spiced character, and smoked vanilla and cinnamon flavor.

Truvia ingredient global commercial manager Breah Ostendorf said, "Malibu® Island Spiced sweetened with Truvia® stevia leaf extract offers the great taste consumers have come to expect in a cocktail choice that doesn't pack on the calories."

The 30% ABV cocktail offers 70cal per serving.

Pernod Ricard USA Malibu brand director Lisa McCann said Malibu Island Spiced is the first low calorie, spiced product marketed by the company.

"We chose Truvia® stevia leaf extract as it enabled us to offer the perfect balance between sweetness and strength without the extra calories," McCann added.

"With the growing demand among adult women for cocktails that taste great and have fewer calories and the acceptance of Truvia® brand among women, Malibu® is pleased to offer our customers a new and innovative way to enjoy their cocktails."

Malibu Island Spiced will be available in 1.75l, 1l, 750ml, 375ml and 50ml sizes on retail shelves, bars and restaurants across the country at suggested retail price of $16.99 per 750ml bottle.
